Westchester Media Works: Services

Website Design and Development

The custom websites we design are as diverse as the clients we serve. Each has its own story to tell, its own message, its own style. Yet, there is a common core throughout; simplicity.

With the barrage of information people are inundated with on a daily basis, we believe it is critical to get your message across as efficiently and effectively as possible. As a professional website design and development company, Westchester Media Works will work with you to identify your core message and how best to deliver it to your audience in a memorable way.

Website Design

Your website will likely be the first impression you or your business make online, so it's important to get it right. A good design will effectively communicate who you are and what you have to offer. This is accomplished through the use of imagery, motion, interaction, and of course words. The basic design principle “form follows function” dictates that content is the driving force behind a successful design. An important part of the design process will be for us to get to know you or your business, to review any content you may already have, and to work through various ideas on how best to communicate your message.

What happens behind the scenes is equally important. If a website doesn't display or function properly, your message is lost. A website that is built to follow industry standards is more likely to display and function properly on a wider range of devices, and is more likely to stand the test of time. All of our websites must pass W3C validation, and all are tested on a range of popular devices and on current versions of the most popular browsers based on W3C statistics, including Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera, and Safari.

UX Design (User Experience)

Simply put, UX design is the process of improving the usability of your website, and the impact this has on the satisfaction of your visitors. At its most basic level, good UX design will help ensure that navigating your website is seamless and intuitive regardless of how it is being viewed. Given the range of digital devices in use today, and the varying methods of interaction, good UX design is an essential part of the design process.

Custom Coding and Technical Development

Developing a website that doesn't have some unique requirement is rare. Even when we start with an existing third-party, turn-key template or theme, customizations are inevitably required. We build custom websites from the ground up, develop custom data driven systems, custom CMS templates, and custom plugins. Customizations are par for the course, and our knowledge of the most popular languages, libraries, and tools help ensure we'll be able to deliver on your needs.

Mobile Website Optimization

In today's culture it is essential that your website display and function correctly across all platforms. All of the new websites we build are mobile friendly and employ the latest techniques to minimize costs. We also test your new website on a wide range of popular devices to help ensure it always looks and behaves its best, regardless of how it's being viewed.

Content Management Systems (CMS)

If the content on your website will be updated often, if you need a blog, require a paid membership or e-commerce website, or have other advanced requirements, a CMS may be the best option for you. There are literally hundreds to choose from, but based on our experience WordPress fulfills the needs of our customers. Well-known for its use as a blogging platform, WordPress also provides a powerful, user friendly framework for building membership sites and advanced e-commerce solutions. WordPress also has a large selection of third-party themes and plugins to choose from to enhance its appearance and functionality. We can also design a completely original theme or develop a custom plugin for you as well. If a CMS is right for you, we can help.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

At its most basic level, the key to effective search engine optimization is understanding that the more unique a search word or phrase, the closer it matches your content, and the more frequently it occurs in your content, the higher your page rank will be. As a part of the development process, we will review your content, identify relevant search words and phrases, and incorporate them into your write-ups. Other steps we may take to optimize your site include:

  • developing new content specific to SEO
  • reviewing keyword density and LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords
  • adding relevant keyword and description meta tags to all pages (to accommodate search engines that still use them)
  • spell checking all pages (it matters to search engines and your image!)
  • using descriptive alt tags on images
  • employing semantic markup and following other accessibility guidelines
  • validating all pages for W3C compliance
  • creating a site map and submitting it to Google
  • submitting your website to be indexed by the most popular search engines
  • if requested, installing and configuring Google Analytics
